Silver Lipless Crankbait Spinner

$3.95

Was out on a boat one day and decided to try something totally different. Added a strip of squid and heaved this silver lipless crankbait spinner into the kelp forest. Needless to say, the bass went wild. I’m not sure if it was the wobble action, strip bait, or tail spinner that did the trick. I fished this bait on my saltwater bass outfit with 18lb test and was glad I did. Time after time, the bass ran into the kelp and around the stalks requiring me to finesse the fish out and to the boat.

A lipless crankbait is a hard-bodied fishing lure that wobbles and makes noise when retrieved. Unlike their billed counterparts, lipless crankbaits don’t have a diving lip to counteract the natural buoyancy of the bait. As a result, lipless crankbaits are made to sink and can be fished at varying depths. And remember, you are blessed with a wobbling side-to-side action. For lipless crankbaits, the best gear ratio is typically considered to be around 7:1. This ratio allows for a fast retrieve when needed. This gives you the ability to fish the bait slowly if necessary. Some anglers may even opt for a slightly higher ratio like 8:1 depending on the situation and desired retrieve speed.

I can’t say for sure if other species were interested because the bass were all over the bait on that day. The action was not bad for a bait one would think is a better fit for freshwater. If you are fishing in heavy cover and need more control, a slightly slower gear ratio might be better, but for open water scenarios, a higher ratio can be advantageous. Because of their buoyancy and sinking action, lipless crankbaits can be fished in water depths up to 20 feet or more.
