Lingm Crank Bait SDM04

$4.95

When looking for a fast action crank bait, look no further than the Lingm Crank Bait SDM04. Today’s crankbaits come in a variety of body shapes and widths, but the lure’s bill is the key feature defining a crankbait as a shallow-, medium- or deep-diving plug. Crankbaits with square bills are best for running in the shallows from 1 to 4 feet. Floating crankbaits are handy in shallow water.

In reservoirs, the deep crankbait bite generally takes place along creek channels and main lake river channels. Lakes set in rocky terrain may often feature deep secondary ledges that are well worth cranking. When using these baits surf fishing, you want to throw them out as far as possible. Cranking and jerking through the surf  results in violent strikes. Large fish like Halibut lay on the bottom camouflaged looking up for a meal tumbling through the surf.

Other fish like surf perch also are voracious attackers of these types of baits. Sharp jerking motions create additional commotion on the surface differentiating them from crashing waves and rolling rocks. These baits catch fish in freshwater AND saltwater so you can use them anywhere.

For crankbaits, a moderate action rod is generally considered the best choice, as it provides enough bend to allow the fish to fully take the bait while still having enough power to set the hook effectively; this action is often described as “parabolic” when referring to crankbait rods. Fluorocarbon is a great line for cranking. This gives the crankbait plenty of action because it is not too big. 12-pound test is also thin enough to get the maximum depth out of a crankbait.

Crankbaits are much rounder and have a steady side to side wiggle and wobble. While a jerkbait is mostly meant to be fished by jerking the bait and causing a much more random and erratic behavior. Crankbaits are really fished with the reel. Jerkbaits are mostly fished with the rod. With cranks you want a slow reel because a high speed reel will wear you out since the bait pulls against you (6 speed is good, maybe 7 if you’re shallow). When using lipless, you want a high speed reel to pick up slack as you rip the bait.
