Shallow water is defined as water less than 100 feet. In shallow water, jigging is a great way to fill the fish box. Keep in mind though it might be a little different than what you’re used to. To me, and many slow pitch jiggers out there, this is an art form that we never stop trying to perfect. Micro jigging is a specialized fishing technique that involves using small, lightweight jigs to target fish species in shallow to mid-depth waters. This finesse approach requires delicate presentations and precise control to entice fish into striking. This jig is not exactly light but in the oceans strong current, it can be whisked away from where it hit the water. That’s not a bad thing, frankly it’s good because the more time in the water the more chances to attract that trophy.

This bait is lethal when used from the boat, dock, pier, jetty, or sand. It’s fishable with or without a streamer so your choices are endless. Freshwater and saltwater fish aggressively attack these jigs because they look like wounded bait fish. Shore jigging is most effective in waters at least 30-45 feet deep. Ideally, you’d be fishing from rocky outcrops, jetties, or other hard structure near deep water. If the sea near you is too shallow, you can always try jigging from harbor walls instead.
There is no right or wrong way to fish a jig. The more erratic the better in clear or stained water.
