Description
A knife jig is a metal fishing lure with a tail weight that’s designed to fall quickly and dart side to side. The slender shape of the jig helps it sink quickly, and the vibration it creates attracts fish. Knife jigs are effective for catching a variety of fish, including tuna, snapper, amberjack, and group. On the west coast, we use the Reflective Sardine Knife Jig(4.5oz) to catch multiple species of rock or migratory fish.
This jig ships with a single assist hook on the front or top of the jig. Placement of the hook is designed to reduce the risk of losing the jig in the rocks or other obstructions. Knife jigs have a long, skinny profile that vibrates and sinks rapidly. For knife jigging, many anglers recommend braided line in the 30–40 pound test range especially in deep water. Braided line is strong, has little to no stretch, and is more sensitive than monofilament. This makes it easier to feel the jig’s movement and any bites Twitching knife jigs to target the bigger snapper under the workups.

Using these jigs is easy. Drop the jig over the side and let it free fall to the bottom. Put the reel in gear. Reel the jig up around 5 feet and give it a sharp jerk. Knife jigs create a vertical “jumping” motion that attracts fish. You can jerk the jig around and fish will find it. Making these jigs ain’t rocket science, and anyone can make some. Jigging is a simple and effective technique for catching a variety of fish day or night.
