Twin Assist Jigging Hooks

$5.95

If you are vertical jigging or high-speed jigging the target species are typically fast fish traveling throughout the water column. Tuna, kings, wahoo, AJs, and have a tendency to short strike the bait so a hook on the bottom of the jig works good and little risk of getting caught in the bottom.

Saltwater jig fishing techniques include the bottom bounce, which the Jig remains on the bottom and hops a few feet either in a straight line or in a zigzag motion. The jig action occurs when you flick the pole up a few feet, reel in the line a few turns. You then allow the Jig to sink to the bottom, and then repeat. Here is where twin assist jigging hooks pay dividends. Be prepared for explosive bites and runs as fish hooked while deep jigging will head directly for pinnacles or rocks. They are good at this and will saw you right off.

Description

Jigging is a method of fishing that has evolved over many centuries, where hooks attached to artificial lures are used to attract and catch fish. The lures are designed to resemble small fish that the target species would normally feed on. These lures or “jigs” use single or twin assist jigging hooks.

This technique of fishing is labor intensive and time consuming. Also jigging requires technical knowledge of an area to determine when and where it can be used. Having said that, jigging is one of the more rewarding methods for putting food on the table. Anchoring to jig can be successful if good numbers of fish are present in a confined area. It is also a popular method in strong winds and when fishing against structure with a vertical drop-off.

Jigging rods need to be lightweight so that you can lift them quickly and they have a sensitive tip for quick reactions. Mechanical/knife jigging works best in deeper waters when you want to fish at reefs and shoals. Those depths cover depths of 60 to 100 meters of water. You’ll have access to larger sportfish like kingfish, Samson fish, and amberjacks, although you can also catch other common reef species with this technique.
