There was a time when they were extremely popular, especially for Smallmouth bass, but over the years, their usage has declined. However, tube baits remain one of my go-to options. Lakes like this—filled with wood and grass—are prime habitats for crawfish, and nothing imitates a crawfish better than a tube. In the ocean, Calico bass, Sand Bass, and the elusive Halibut and Flounder routinely hammer tube baits.

Anglers also fish GitZits Texas-style with the weight on the nose of the lure. I will allow the weight to run freely on the line in heavy weeds. I find this eliminates a lot of snagging in the weeds. If the weeds have open areas, use a toothpick to peg the weight, making sure to snip off the excess. Select good saltwater baits including sea worms, eels, crabs, shrimp, strips of squid, and cut-up pieces of fish.

Bigger baits tend to catch bigger fish. These tubes are large so for saltwater, we recommend at least 20lb line. The same for freshwater because f the obstructions.
