Octopus Circle Hooks 2/0

$4.95

A circle hook is a fishing hook manufactured so that the point is turned perpendicularly back to the hook shank to form a generally circular, or oval, shape. Octopus Circle Hooks 2/0 have been specially designed to set in the corner of a fish’s mouth. That makes it a great choice for both fresh and saltwater anglers who prefer to use bait. Using circle hooks reduces occurrences of gut-hooking which can cause injuries to internal organs of the fish. When a fish swallows the bait, the circle hook is designed to slide out from its throat and catch on the corner of its jaw.

When fishing with circle hooks, you need to wait until the fish begins to swim off with the bait and hook. Once in its mouth, you gradually apply pressure, and the fish hooks itself. You do NOT yank to set the hook. The result is a clean hook set in the corner of the fish’s mouth. This is ideal for any type of fishing, especially “catch and release”.

This purchase includes 15 hooks in a resealable pouch.

Usage:

For smaller baitfish, like a sardine, anchovy, threadfin, or finger mullet, I like to use a #2, #1, or 1/0 circle hook. For larger, tougher baitfish, like big pinfish or croakers, I’ll go with a 3/0 to 5/0 circle hook. No matter what bait you’re using, it’s important to match the size of the hook with the size of the bait. Circle hooks offer other advantages. When properly used, catch rates are much higher than with J-shaped hooks. They are safer, with no exposed point to hook a fellow fisherman. Circle hooks are also much less likely to snag bottom or debris.

Circle hooks have been shown to increase the survival of angler released fish. With their success already proven for many game fish species, circle hooks are commonly used. Usage is increasingly for many other common recreational species. Those species include golden perch, bream, flathead, and kingfish. We highly recommend Octopus Circle Hooks 2/0 for most types of fishing.
