Reflective tassel assist hooks (5pcs)

$7.95

An assist hook consists of a single or double hook to which a short loop of strong, braided line is affixed. It’s finished off with either a somewhat flexible plastisol coating or a short length of heat-shrink tubing. The tubing fits over the knot that joins the short loop of line to the hook. Reflective Tassel Assist Hooks attach to deep dropping jigs resulting in phenomenal hookups and landings.

Using two smaller assist hooks is ideal for fish with a smaller mouth like snappers, albacores, bonitos, dorados etc. On the other hand, it’s natural to think two assist hooks are easier to snag on the bottom than one. The thought is this happens when the jig rests there after casting. This is partially right.

An assist hook solves a couple problems. ONE: An assist hook eliminates jig to leader foul when vertical jigging. A jig that is rigged in a traditional fashion via split ring and treble hook has a common fouling issue when yo-yo or speed jigged. This issue will drive an angler crazy especially in deep water situations. If the point of the hook grabs the nail without sliding across it, you can be confident the hook is plenty sharp. If the point of the hook slides across the nail, scratching the surface of the nail it in the process, the hook could use a quick touch up.

This hook set consists of five sets of blue double assist hooks in 2/0 size.

Usage:

The best reason to use the assist hook on top of the jig, is, when the fish is hooked, the fish is on the main line. This is without being attached to the jig. When the hook is attached to the bottom, the fish can use the jig as leverage to loosen the hook. When the fish finally attacks, hold the rod parallel to the water. Begin reeling to remove slack line and set the hook. If the fish strikes but misses the hook, either tease it into striking again or try free spooling the lure. If the fish doesn’t immediately reappear in the spread it may be close by.
