Description
Deep Water Jigs like the TADY 17 WOYC Heavy are big and heavy. That’s because they are designed to reach the fish that hang in the depths with ease. In deeper water you’re more likely to be fishing with a heavier weight jig. Others use the “double the depth” rule i.e. if you’re fishing in 60m of water (with minimal current). You’d use a 120g jig (or similar). You can easily increase that to 2.5 x the depth when fishing in a high current area.
Deep sea fishing is a kind of fishing that requires a trip out into the Pacific, Atlantic, or any of the worlds ocean. It’s in deep waters and requires a trip up the Intercoastal Waterway out into the ocean far from land in the Atlantic. In the pacific, there are deep shelves within a few hours ride. The water depth should be at least 30 meters to be considered deep sea fishing area. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) defines deep-sea fisheries as those conducted between the depths of 200 and 2000 meters.

When fishing in deeper water it’s best to tip the jig with something like squid or larger baitfish. Typically the bait would be dropped to the bottom and wound up off the bottom. The reason you do this is to reduce the risk of hang-ups on obstructions. Since the boat will not be on anchor. the bait would then be caught in the drift exposed to more fish.
In the Pacific ocean, we used 80lb Dacron on at least 9/0 reels with large power handles. The rods were stiff, had rollers, and a rest that sits on the railing. We used to fish down to 1000 feet and caught really large fish. People are now using electric reels instead of cranking pound and up jigs with large fish.
This jig weighs a pound and its sleek design ensures it gets to the bottom with minimal fight with the current.
