Shazer Ice Fishing Spinner

$3.95

Ice fishing is the practice of catching fish with lines and fish hooks or spears through an opening in the ice on a frozen body of water. Ice fishers may fish in the open or in heated enclosures, some with bunks and amenities. You can find many artificial lures made especially for ice fishing, from small ice flies used for panfish (sunfish, perch, and crappie) to large jigging spoons for lake trout. The Shazer Ice Fishing Spinner is a great bait for ice fishing. The heavy head and spinner makes it awesome in saltwater as well.

Most ponds and lakes offer ice fishing potential. The characteristics of the body of water determine the types of fish available for capture. Large, shallower ponds and lakes favor species such as chain pickerel, northern pike, yellow perch and sunfish. To achieve good catches of northern pike, walleye, or lake trout, anglers need to fish deepwater lakes selectively. Anglers frequently catch brown trout, rainbow trout, and landlocked salmon just a few feet under the ice, even in deep bodies of water.

I can’t say for sure if other species were interested because the bass were all over the bait on that day. The action was not bad for a bait one would think is a better fit for freshwater. If you are fishing in heavy cover and need more control, a slightly slower gear ratio might be better. For open water scenarios, a higher ratio can be advantageous. Anglers fish hard baits in water depths of 20 feet or more due to their buoyancy and sinking action.
