Salas 6x Jr Green Sardine

$11.95

Salas 6X jigs are the only way to fish Yo-Yo iron! This specific Salas 6x Jr rusty or “Green Sardine” yo-yo iron is a fish catching machine. It falls under the jig category that’s heavy in weight. The way this type of fishing is done is you drop it to the bottom and wind fast until the lure is back on the surface.  Repeat the process until you catch a fish or your arm cramps up. But like with every technique, there are variations to this basic presentation. They will often be the determining factor in whether you end up with a cramped up arm or a bent rod.

You may have heard the term Yo-Yo fishing. This is generally a term used when fishing offshore for tuna and/or deep pelagic fish. This is a very popular and effective technique for catching big fish. A lot of times jigs are swallowed during the drop. The yo-yo concepts suggests jigs will be consumed during the retrieve but that’s clearly not the case. Yo-yo irons are typically made of brass. Solid brass yo-yo irons are used for fishing in deep water or with current. They are also good for targeting bottom species like tuna, ling cod, and yellowtail.

When fishing the Yo-Yo technique in the ocean, line should be no less than 40# test with a conventional reel. Rod choice should be more on the stiff side and definitely a 40-60lb class. Two speed reels are the reel of choice because big fish know their way into rocky overhangs and will run straight there when hooked. Being able to put the reel into low gear allows you to crank the fish above obstructions. Once away from the bottom, you can put the reel into high speed and crank the fish to the surface.
