Orange & Yellow Cedar Plug Trolling Techniques:

Some of the most popular trolling techniques include slow trolling, fast trolling, and downrigger fishing. Slow trolling is a great way to catch saltwater fish. This trolling technique involves dragging a lure behind the boat at a slow speed. The lazy pull and fluttering of the bait tempt hungry fish and indicate that the bait is injured. With all the crazy colors out there, does it really matter to the fish which one you use? The short answer is yes. Believe it or not, an essential part of lure selection is color. For overcast days, we would use this Nude Cedar Plug.

Lest we forget, anglers revere cedar plugs as tuna lures primarily because of the scent. Old-timers would soak a plug in menhaden oil, which the durable yet porous wood would absorb. In my opinion, scents contributed heavily to the productivity of cedar plugs. The most fundamental rule is to fish brightly colored baits in dingy or muddy water and light, subtle colors in clear water.
