Ash Bucket

$8.95

Ash from coal or anthracite should be put in the waste bin since it has little or no nutritional benefit. It’s also potentially harmful to soil, plants, and consumers of edible produce. It should not be put in home composting either. Ashes are usually a good thing to add to lawns but only if the lawn should be more alkaline.

We call this an Ash Bucket but it has many uses. Another favorite of ours is using it for disposal of crab or any seafood shells. It’s sturdy, metal construction won’t disappoint and it’s dishwasher safe. The metal handle is not a point of least resistance so you can load it up without fear of breakage.

Description

To make sure they are completely cool first, they should be placed in the residual waste bin (your black wheelie bin). Or transported to a Recycling and household waste site for disposal. If you don’t have a use for your ashes (see below) these should be placed in the residual waste bin. More importantly though, ashes from BBQ should be allowed to cool completely before charcoal disposal. Once cooled, the ashes can be wrapped in aluminum foil and tossed in the landfill. Or you can get an ash bucket and collect your ash over time to avoid any back-and-forth.

It should not be put in home composting either. Ashes are usually a good thing to add to lawns but only if the lawn should be more alkaline. If the pH already is good (or too high) or if you’ve already got plenty of potassium, then adding ashes could be detrimental.

Our Ash Bucket is metal and has a metal handle for carrying. We all know what summer means: It’s time to get grilling! How is it that food cooked over fire always tastes better? If you’re grilling with charcoal, make sure you follow common sense steps to dispose of leftover coals and ashes safely.

DISPOSAL:

For proper disposal, allow ashes to cool for 48 hours, or pour water onto them and stir thoroughly to speed up the process. After the ashes have fully cooled, wrap them in aluminum foil or place them in a small metal container, such as a coffee can. Then dispose of them in an outdoor trash bin. Do not place ashes or coals near anything that could catch fire. If you have a BBQ grill with a lid and vents close it when you have finished cooking to starve the coals of oxygen.

Doing so also reduces the chance of a coal or ember escaping while you wait for the coals to extinguish. Starving the coals of oxygen increases the chance of leaving unused charcoal in the bottom of your grill which can be used the next time you cook. If you try this, make sure you remove as much of the ash as possible from the leftover charcoal.
