You are normally targeting a bigger fish. This increases your hookup ratio with the trailer or \u201cstinger\u201d treble hook. The stinger hook assists in connecting on some of those short bites you might otherwise miss. If an aggressive fish bites your bait, it\u2019s also comforting to know that you have that stinger buried deep in its throat. This trap rig 20# is made using a 1\/0 Octopus hook, a barrel swivel, a fluorocarbon leader, and a size 4 stinger hook.<\/p>\n<p>Use a Snell knot to attach the octopus hook to the line and leave a long tag end to tie on the treble. It\u2019s going to take some trial and error tying up the tag end to get the proper length for your bait. It\u2019s shorter than you think it is when tying up. I use a simple uni knot to attach the treble hook. When you tie these leaders onto the swivel, you should end up with your tied leader being 14-16\u2033 away from the mainline.<\/p>\n<h4>Usage:<\/h4>\n<p>This rig is best used during a semi-fast, to fast drift. If you\u2019re anchored up, or the water is glass and there\u2019s no wind and\/or current to push the boat; you\u2019re better off throwing a jig or swimbait to cover more ground. Once you are all rigged and baited up, drop your line straight down.\u00a0 You then let the boat movement create your bait movement.<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind, you are fishing this rig to target a bigger fish. If the conditions are right, and you don\u2019t get bit, it\u2019s because the right fish isn\u2019t there to bite it. It\u2019s a trade-off of quantity vs. quality. The other thing to remember is you are using a big bait. Don\u2019t go for the big swing when you first start getting attention. You need to give fish time to eat the bait.\u00a0 The Trap Rig 20# with a fluorocarbon leader is strong so you should be able to handle large fish.
